Pinnacle Fundraising News

Many local people and visitors to our Benefice are familiar with the sight of the St Eval church tower and its 4 pinnacles. In fact, this landmark can be seen for many miles away and was once used as a daymark for shipping. The pinnacles form a prominent feature of our church and add much to its external character. They are very exposed and over the years, age and the Atlantic storms have taken their toll. About 10 years ago we started to monitor their condition with a realisation that at some stage they would need remedial work. With this in mind funds have been set aside and this year we sought professional advice on their condition. The structural engineers reported that all 4 pinnacles were in need of being taken down and rebuilt around a stainless steel support rod. Indeed, 3 of the pinnacles had started to tilt and it was reported that their repair should be completed as a matter of some urgency. It was ascertained through the tender process that the cost for the work would be in the order of £50,000.

Our Fund Raising is continuing but we felt we had sufficient funds to allow the project to go ahead. The contractors have started to erect the scaffolding around the tower.

Apologies for such a large gap in information but my computer died on me.
Now that I am up and running again the pinnacles are finished.
We would like to thank all those people who supported us financially and so made it all possible.
